Description
Program Description
"On World AIDS Day, WNYC aired the 25-minute documentary 'AIDS: A Struggling Community, A Dying Nation.' This report explores the epidemic in Southern Africa through the eyes of a New York City immigrant from Zimbabwe and her family. Eunice, who is HIV positive, lives in Queens and is feeling healthy thanks to the latest anti-retrovirals. But back in Zimbabwe, where one out of four adults is believed to be infected with HIV, Eunice's loved ones are dying from the very same virus. WNYC Reporter Beth Fertig and producer Gene Bryan Johnson travelled to Zimbabwe to meet with Eunice's family and neighbors. This is the story of their community. By connecting the epidemic overseas to a New York immigrant, this report also leaves the listener with a simple question: what obligation, if any, do we owe our global neighbors'"--1999 Peabody Awards entry form.
